Doctoral Studies

PhD in Computational Physics (2022–Present; thesis submitted)
Institute for Multiscale Simulation, FAU Erlangen–Nürnberg, Erlangen, Germany
(Dr.-Ing. candidate)

Dissertation: Multiscale analysis of shear-induced surface deformation in granular materials composed of non-spherical particles
Supervisor: Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Dr.-Ing. Thorsten Pöschel

Research focus:
- Developed and optimized C++ DEM simulations in MercuryDPM/YADE (~10^5 particles, OpenMP), reducing runtime from ~30 to ~16 days on HPC systems
- Built Python pipelines to process TB-scale, time-resolved simulation data (>10^4 timesteps) for particle-scale analysis
- Quantified how friction, cohesion, and particle shape influence stress transmission, deformation, and granular rheology
- Applied coarse-graining to extract continuum fields (velocity, strain rate, stress tensor) from particle-scale data
- Validated simulation results through systematic comparison with experimental observations
- Automated analysis and visualization workflows (plots, videos) for large-scale simulations
- Managed and optimized long-running HPC jobs (scheduling, monitoring, performance tuning)
